Description:

The home of Irish soccer, Dalymount Park is the home of Dublin's Bohemian Football Club. It saw its first match on the 7th September 1901 when Bohs hosted Shelbourne. Harold Sloan scored the first ever goal at the ground in a 4-2 win for Bohemians. In March 1904, Dalymount hosted its first international, a match involving Ireland and Scotland. The first international to feature the Republic of Ireland was in 1924, when they played the USA. Dalymount's record attendance was approximately 48,000, for an Irish international game against England on the 19th May 1957. Floodlights were installed in 1962. Irish football moved to Landsdowne Road in the '80s with only a small number of internationals ever being played in Dalyer thereafter.

In 1985 Ireland hosted Italy at Dalymount park, a fixture which highlighted the safety issues of the now run-down stadium. After this the capacity was restricted to about half its original figure, now only accomodating 22,000. The last full Irish international to be played there was a friendly against Morocco in 1990.

In modern times the stadium has been redeveloped somewhat. The old shed end has had seats installed. Also there has been a new 3000 capacity 'Jodi' stand built in place of the old main stand.

The fate of the 'home of Irish soccer' was sealed however in 2006 when 249 of 250 club members voted in favour of selling the famous stadium to property developers. In the deal, the developers agreed an upfront lump payment and to build a new 10,000 capacity stadium for the club off the M50 near Dublin airport. The new stadium is not expected until at least 2010.

The loving memory of Dalymount park will remain with all those involved in Irish soccer.
