Ibrox has a very long and varied history although one thing that strikes out the most is the 1971 Ibrox disaster where on the 2nd of Janurary, 66 people lost their lives when stairway 13 collapsed after an old firm derby, suffocating those people to death. An great number of other people were also injured during the tradegy. A memorial game was played between a Rangers and Celtic Select XI at Hampden Park infont of 81,405 spectators. In 1972 a memorial was built next to stairway 13.
