The AWD Arena (formally known as Niedersachsenstadion) is a football stadium located in Hanover, Germany. The 49,000 capacity stadium which originally held 86,000 spectators and was built in 1954 is the home ground of the Bundesliga club Hannover 96.
The foundations of the stadium were made from rubble from local houses following the socond world war.
The AWD Arena has hosted many big games including 1974 World Cup, 1988 European Championship and the 2006 World Cup. Numerous German international games have also been played at the AWD.
In 2003/2004 the ground was almost completely renovated for the FIFA World Cup that was hosted in Germany in 2006.
