Description:
The Lakeside Country Club has been home to the BDO World Darts Championship since 1986. The Event is organised by the British Darts Organisation. The event first started in 1978, it was held at The Heart Of The Midlands Nightclub, Nottingham which is now known as Rock City. In 1978 the event was moved to the Jollees Cabaret Club, Stoke, where it stayed until the move to the Lakeside Country Club. The event is held every January and is now broadcast by the BBC worldwide to millions of fans.
In 1994 following a dispute with the BDO a rival group was formed (the Professional Darts Corporation) and has staged its own PDC World Championship each year at Purfleet's Circus Tavern, Essex.
