The construction of the stadium started in 1957 financed by the Egyptian football association.The stadium came to life when it was inaugurated by the late President Gamal-Aber Nasser in 1960.Thirty per cent of the terraces are equipped with individual seating while the rest is still home to the old fashioned concrete benches.Besides hosting International games the stadium his the home of Ahly and Zamalek two top Egyptian league sides.
