Description

Francistown Stadium is located in Francistown, Botswana. It is a relatively new stadium that has been available only for three years. Although it is suitable for different kinds of sports, it is mainly used for football matches. The stadium is the home ground of TAFIC (Tati African Federation Independent Club), the club that relegated from the Botswana Premier League in 2014. The total capacity of Francistown Stadium is 26,000 people, and it has a running track around the football field.

The construction of the stadium began in 2008. It was planned to be used for World Cup that took place in 2010, but that could not come true because of a range of delays and problems with management, which did not allow completing the construction of the stadium in time. Initially, the design of the Francistown Stadium was similar to stadiums located in Maun, Molepolole, and Masunga, but it was changed to meet the World Cup standards. The stadium was supposed to have a capacity of 30,000, but it was reduced.

Finally, the stadium was opened in 2015 with a capacity of 26,500. Initially, it was planned to spend P175 million to construct the stadium, but, eventually, it cost P300 million. The very first game that was held on the ground was between Burkina Faso and Botswana, which ended with the victory of the latter with a score of 1-0.
