Stade 19 Mai 1956 is a football stadium located in Annaba, Algeria. The stadium was constructed in 1987. Today, its capacity is 35,000 people. It is an all-seater stadium. Stade 19 Mai 1956 is the permanent home of USM Annaba, a football club, who plays in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle One. Time to time, the stadium is used by the Algeria national football team.
The first football match was held in the ground in the summer of 1987. It was the game between Sudan and the Algerian national football team. The first goal in the stadium was scored by Kamel Mohammed. Stade 19 Mai 1956 was also chosen to be the venue for African Cup of Nations that took place in 1990.
In 2012, the stadium held the match of Algeria against Morocco during the African Cup of Nations Qualification. Hassan Yebda, a player of Algeria, scored the only goal from the penalty spot. All tickets for the match were sold out, and it was the only victory of the football team during the management of Benchika.
In the spring of 2012, it was announced by Mohamed Raouraoua, the president of the FAF in the country, that the stadium had chances to become an official venue of the CAF U-20 tournament that was planned to take place in Algeria.
